Families

Defence Member and Family Support, or DMFS (formerly known as the Defence Community Organisation) is an integral part of the Department of Defence.

DMFS work with Defence members and families and community organisations to develop and implement programs and services of value that reinforce the Australian Defence force (ADF) appreciation for, and commitment to, military families.

Defence Family Helpline

DMFS

The Defence Member and Family Helpline is your first point of call for support, information and connection with your community, including your local DMFS team. The Helpline is available 24-7 and is staffed by qualified human services professionals including social workers and psychologists. They can also provide advice on mailing addresses and postal regulations for overseas deployments, and can facilitate the passing of urgent messages to deployed personnel.

Defence Special Needs Support Group

DSNSG

The Defence Special Needs Support Group Inc is a non-profit benevolent volunteer organisation established to assist Navy, Army and Air Force families with a family member with special needs.

The group has been actively involved in ADF policy development resulting in a new range of measures to assist families with special needs on posting to a new locality, as well as actively and successfully raising awareness of the difficulties that mobile families face at a State and Federal level.

Open Arms - Veterans & Families Counselling

Open Arms

Open Arms – Veterans & Families Counselling (formerly VVCS) offer high quality mental health assessment and clinical counselling services for Navy, Army and Air Force personnel, veterans & their families.

Open Arms offers face-to-face, telephone and online counselling, including tailored programs for children, and they can be reached 24-7 on 1800 011 046.

Kookaburra Kids

Kookaburra Kids

The Australian Kookaburra Kids Foundation has a Defence Kids program dedicated to supporting the unique needs of children from serving and ex-serving ADF families.

The program provides camps, activity days and age-appropriate mental health education focusing on coping skills and resilience, while allowing children to bond with peers who are facing similar challenges.

Shoalhaven Defence Families Asociation (SDFA)

The SDFA is a not-for-profit organisation set up to bring fun, friendship and support to defence and civilian families in the Shoalhaven and surrounding areas.

The Nowra Veteran Wellbeing Centre provides a veteran-centric community focused program offering a variety of wellbeing services for veterans and their families. The Nowra Veteran Wellbeing Centre is brought to you by RSL LifeCare Veteran Services, with the support of RSL NSW.
