Getting Home Safely

Vincentia Public School has a bag tag system for students in K-2 to let the teachers and students know how the child will be getting home for that day. Please put the bag tag on your child’s bag and ensure the insert is correct for that afternoon. Tags are available for purchase for $2 from the school office and include a set of inserts to advise how the child is getting home. The inserts include Bus, After School Care, Pick Up by Parent/Carer, and Kiss and Drop/Pick Up Zone.

Bus and Bus Passes

Student travel/bus pass applications are made online through the Department of Transport. This information is provided in your orientation pack and available from the front office. Buses are often noisy and crowded, which can be daunting for new Kindergarten children. Where possible, allow your child to adjust to the routine of coming to school before bus travel for Kindergarten students begins. It is beneficial to organise an older sibling or arrange an older buddy to assist your child when they first start using the bus. We also recommend talking with your child about where to get off the bus in the afternoon and who will be meeting them at the bus stop.

Bicycles

Children are permitted to ride bicycles and scooters to school however, the Roads & Maritime Service recommends that children under 10 years of age do not ride unsupervised. It is the responsibility of parents to see that all bikes and scooters ridden to school are roadworthy and that children wear helmets if they are riding to and from school. In the morning, students dismount their bikes/scooters at the school gate and walk their bike/scooters to the racks, securing them for the day. At the end of the day, students are escorted by a teacher to the racks. No responsibility is taken for bikes or scooters which are brought to school. The teacher will ensure all students are wearing helmets and will walk with students to the crossing at the bottom of George Caley Place.
